LOVE DOGS
Greetings to all doggies from the pet friendly Great BRAK River!
In the Garden Route’s quaintest village there are numerous interesting walks around our village, next to the river and on the beach – which makes Great BRAK River the perfect place for dogs and their owners.
Saturdays are especially popular – doggies arrive from as far as George, Oudtshoorn and Mossel Bay to meet friends, and to attend their weekly Canine Classes.
CAWS 4 PAWS
CAWS 4 PAWS (Community Animal Welfare Society) is a registered NPO (117-136), and together with Croft Animal Hospital and the Garden Route SPCA they are the main sponsors and drivers of the annual Great Brak River Sterithon. On Saturday 27 August 2016 they sterilized 50 dogs and 20 cats, adding to the running total of nearly 770 animals.
This community project was established 9 years ago by concerned residents and the local veterinary doctors in Great Brak River. During the annual Sterithon dogs and cats collected from the various local communities are sterilized as a free service.
In 2013 CAWS 4 PAWS was nominated in the Top 5 in the Environmental Initiatives category at the 2nd annual Mossel Bay Environmental Awards.
“Our aim is to provide much needed relief for cats and dogs from homes that cannot afford sterilization.”

DOG FRIENDLY RESTAURANTS
Doggy Tourism is one of our Great BRAK marketing themes – and in collaboration with the Eden District Municipality we are busy coordinating “dog friendly spots” at some of our local restaurants. More details to follow.
DOG FRIENDLY ACCOMMODATION

A number of guest houses and B&B’s in and around Great Brak River allow guests to bring their pets along. A list of these establishments will be published here at a later stage; in the meantime you can have a look at the individual introductions of albums and listings in SLEEP where this is mentioned if applicable.
